Also known as the Golden Dragon Dance, Kinryu no Mai is an annual event at Sensoji Temple, where you can catch a special performance featuring a brilliant 18m-long golden dragon.
The dance celebrates two fisherman brothers who happened to catch a Buddhist statue of Kannon in the Sumida River back in the year 628. This statue of Kannon, the Bodhisattva of Mercy, was then used to establish the Sensoji Temple. The golden dragon represents the form that the Buddhist figure Kannon used when descending from the heavens.
You can watch the dance for free at 11.30am, 2pm and 3.30pm.
