Time Out says

Manhole covers aren't usually the most interesting thing to talk about – except the ones in Japan. They’re not only inventive but also carry great historical and cultural significance, so much so that Shinjuku’s Takashimaya department store has dedicate a three-day exhibition to the most beautiful ones collected from all over Japan. (See the most beautiful manhole covers in Tokyo here.)

You can look forward to manhole covers featuring colourful illustrations of Mt Fuji from Fuji city in Shizuoka prefecture, or the beautiful castle of Himeji city from Hyogo prefecture. There's more: you can also shop for special manhole cover merchandise and collectibles, including doormats, collector cards, ball pens, stickers and even cookies. Round off your Insta-worthy photo adventure with one of the dorayaki (pancakes filled with bean jam) snacks on sale, which are available in three different manhole-cover-designs.

If you miss the exhibition itself, there is no need to worry, since Shinjuku’s Tokyu Hands next door holds a satellite exhibition on its 7th floor selling a range of manhole cover goods until February 24.
