A traditional Japanese garden in Mejirodai along the Kanda river. The grounds used to be the suburban residence of the Hosokawa family, the feudal lords who ruled the Higo region (modern-day Kumamoto prefecture) during the Edo period. After World War II the land changed hands several times and it now serves as a public park. The garden may be a little far out north of Tokyo, but it’s worth your time if you combine it with a visit to the breathtaking historical remains of Chinzanso Garden nearby.
