This urban Obon Odori event started in 1932 and attracts roughly 40,000 visitors every year. There are countless Obon festivals in Tokyo over summer, but this is one of the largest as Marunouchi is a melting pot of shopowners, a majority of whom will be setting up stalls on the streets this time of year.
In fact, there will be a small beer festival happening, which the organisers dubbed the World Beer Cup, with about two dozen stalls offering a cold pint to help you beat the heat. Watch as a splendid procession dances to the Tokyo Ondo song while you snack on street food and make your way around the Hibiya Park.
