One species of fish that you won't see too often in Tokyo, the hatahata or Japanese sandfish is the focus of this quirky weekend festival put on by Akita and Tottori prefectures – both major hot spots for hatahata fishing. Head over to the new Tsukiji Uogashi complex to taste this white, approximately 20cm long delicacy in forms ranging from nabe and shottsuru sauce to sushi and dried fillets. Around 30 booths will be set up, so you can probably count on non-hatahata eats making a few appearances as well.
