May 30 is known as 'Gomi Zero' (Garbage Zero) Day in Japan – a designation based on a cute wordplay that probably won't make much sense to non-Japanese speakers (5 = go, 3 = mi, 0 = zero, in case you're interested). Each year, anti-littering NPO Green Bird (slogan: 'Keep Clean, Keep Green') uses the occasion to rally a group of volunteers and spruce up the streets of Shibuya and Omotesando, and you're more than welcome to join in. The intrepid team of tidy types will be meeting at the Harajuku entrance to Yoyogi Park at 10am, with the clean-up running from 10.30am until noon.
