Since starting in the US in 1970, Earth Day has spread to around 170 countries. It's celebrated every year in Tokyo with this Earth Day festival at Yoyogi Park, which takes place on April 13 and 14. You'll find plenty of stalls selling eco-friendly and sustainable lifestyle goods, clothes, handmade accessories and organic foods. Expect a massive gathering of eco-conscious Tokyoites, and don’t forget to bring your own shopping bag.
There will also be live performances over the weekend. You can catch sets by artists including J-Pop band Czecho No Republic, singer Tokiko Kato, rapper Tamaki-Roy and many more. You can see the full list of artists on the website.
If you want to get more active during Earth Day, sign up for the plogging event. Plogging is a combination of jogging and picking up litter, and you can give it a try around Yoyogi Park from 9am to 11.30am on April 14. Register in advance via the website.
