Now that this year’s holiday season has arrived, Tokyo is sparkling with beautiful illuminations and festive activities for everyone. If you’re a fan of Super Mario, make your way to the Marunouchi Bright Holiday 2024 extravaganza happening now until January 13 2025. Spanning the Marunouchi, Otemachi and Yurakucho neighhourhoods, this festive event sees a fun mix of Super Mario-themed attractions and activities to enjoy over Christmas and New Year.

From a stunning illumination display to interactive photo spots, there’s plenty of opportunities to get into the festive spirit with Mario and his fellow friends including Luigi, Peach, Yoshi and more. If that wasn’t enough, you can also participate in a stamp rally and win prizes, shop for limited-edition Super Mario goods, and enjoy special food and drink menus. Here’s a closer look at what you’ll find in Marunouchi this holiday season.

Take photos at the special photo spots

Along with the festive light displays, there are several photo spots set up around the district for you to take photos with all your favourite Super Mario characters.

You'll find Mario and Luigi and a life-sized Warp Pipe at the Kokusai Building, Peach at the Shin-Marunouchi Building atrium, colourful Yoshis at Marunouchi Oazo, Luigi's Mansion Haunted Terrace at Marunouchi Terrace, and a garden of holiday Toads at Marunouchi Brick Square.

Catch the Super Mario illuminations

Visit the Maru Building in Marunouchi to see the stunning Super Mario illumination display featuring Mario and his Nintendo pals. While the light-up is mesmerising even on its own, be sure to stick around for the daily light show that is held every 15 minutes from 5pm to 9pm.

The dazzling illumination features Super Mario powering up by hitting a golden question block, releasing a number of iconic items including Super Stars, Super Mushrooms and Fire Flowers. There are also appearances by Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, Koopa Troopas and more.

The illumination is running until January 13 2025 (excluding January 1).

Join the stamp rally to win prizes

What better way to commemorate your visit to Marunouchi than with a special Super Mario prize? To win a special set of Super Mario stickers and an exclusive clear file folder, all you have to do is complete the stamp rally, which takes you to the various sightseeing spots in Marunouchi. There's a total of nine stamps to collect, featuring images of Mario, Yoshi, Peach, Princess Daisy, Bowser, Toad, and other Super Mario characters.

To get started on the stamp rally, just head to one of the participating stores and pick up a stamp card for ¥200. Then, check out this map to identify all the stamp locations. Once you've completed the stamp rally card, you can return to one of the card sales locations to redeem your prize.
