Wagner may be known for creating very complex opera pieces, but Tannhäuser is likely his most accessible one. Set in 13th century Germany, Tannhäuser is a knight who is residing with Venus on her sacred Venusberg, yet decides to leave her realm to rejoin reality. There, his old love, Elisabeth, is still waiting for him. The ensuing story combines typical Wagner themes such as salvation, death and love, with the three often intertwining. If you’re looking to experience all the highlights of an opera, including an overture, ballet and a full-blown chorus, this show is it.
