Watch an outdoor performance of traditional noh theatre at Higashi-Ikebukuro Central Park. This 80-minute program focuses on the tale ‘Nohgaku Quest’, where a traveller from China arrives at the Toshima district and proceeds to tell a story about how his home, Chang’an, is suffering from a curse. The traveller then encounters the Inari fox spirit in his dreams and is promised that help is coming to restore Chang’an.
Though traditional noh can be a difficult to understand, even for native Japanese, fear not – this performance is good for beginners as it offers translations in English, Japanese, Chinese and Korean through a smartphone link.
