Infusing a simple sandwich with the refined flavours of washoku sounds like a great idea, so we're eager to try out creations like miso pork belly BLTs and 'wiches stuffed with egg steamed in tuna and kombu seaweed broth at Wa's Sandwich, one of the many eateries opened recently inside Shinjuku's Newoman. In addition to such orthodox set-ups, seasoned with Japanese staples like soy sauce, miso and mirin, you'll find yoshoku-style sandwiches like the Rosu Katsu, filled with potato salad, carrot, broccoli and a pork cutlet soaked with sweet tonkatsu sauce. In addition to looking absolutely mouth-watering, the offerings here are way more voluminous than your average konbini sandwich, but will still only set you back around ¥500.
