Only in Japan will you find a retail shop operating without any staff. We can’t think of any other country where a shop could function and survive on just trust and good faith in its customers. Second-hand clothing store Selfurugi is thriving on this business model as they’ve just opened up their third outlet in Kichijoji. The unmanned shop has become increasingly popular as people are keen on avoiding face-to-face contact due to the pandemic.
Offering mostly T-shirts, shirts, sweat tops and jackets, this new Kichijoji vintage store also carries a sizable selection of pre-loved denim. Once you’ve decided on your purchase, just check the product tags for the prices and pay at the self-checkout machine or payment box. It doesn’t get any easier than that.
