Resident Germans and other Tokyoites partial to Teutonic sweets will find plenty to smile about at this new Hiroo bakery and pastry shop. In addition to carrying essentials like Niederegger marzipan and Schokovida chocolate, Schloss Bäckerei – which draws on the traditions of a castle-turned-hotel in the northeastern German city of Kittendorf – specialises in freshly baked pastries and tarts, some of which incorporate Japanese ingredients like Setouchi lemon and apples from Aomori. There's a tiny café space inside the shop, but you'll be better off opting for takeout.
