Visitors leaving Japan via Tokyo’s Haneda Airport can now taste superior-quality sake one last time before they fly off, at the world’s first venue to specialise in canned sake. Prime Sake is a stylish standing bar complete with in-house shop, from the team behind the premium sake brand of the same name.
Passing through the noren curtain at Terminal 3’s International Departure Lobby on the third floor reveals a modern, minimalistic interior that is nonetheless imbued with a traditional Japanese aesthetic. Dominating the space is a sizeable standing counter around which you can drink canned sake from Prime Sake’s full lineup of 11 brews, each sourced from a different brewer located across Japan. These 180mm cans (from ¥1,650 each) are as artfully designed as the surroundings, and they make great souvenirs.
Also on offer at the counter bar are a seasonal selection of non-canned sake from other brewers (from ¥1,110), and snacks including salted vegetable chips (¥550) and otsuna misansho (green Japanese pepper). Needless to say, this new arrival at Haneda makes for a spirited ‘sayonara’ for those departing Japan.
