Drop by Journey to take your tastebuds on a tour of confectionery and pastries from around the world. You’ll find up to ten different goodies on offer each day, including seven or eight baked treats.
Besides a few standard items, the lineup changes every two months and is based on the season – expect baked goods with lots of spices (or even some liquor) in winter, and sweets from warmer countries in the summer.
Journey is owned by Shusaku Hayashi, who has travelled to more than 50 countries and encountered over 500 different types of local sweets. When we visited, the selection included mannala (¥200), a type of brioche shaped like a little man and prepared to celebrate Saint Nicholas day in the French Alsace region. There was also biezpiena vēja kūka (¥550), a cream puff from Latvia with a filling made from cottage cheese and apricot compote. But we loved the rustic shekerbura (¥400), an Azerbaijani pastry in a half-moon shape, filled with walnuts, cardamom and coarse sugar.
Journey is a delicious place to find your new favourite pastry, all while learning about different baking traditions and cultures around the world.
