Just when we thought we'd seen it all on the bread front, someone in Tokyo comes up with a completely new concept. Take this Ebisu café: it sells everything on a hot dog bun, known as coppe-pan in Japanese (bastardised from the French 'coupé', or cut). Check out the plumply filled Ebisu-coppe with egg salad, go more savoury with the Tonkatsu, Salmon & Avocado, Saba (mackerel) or Peanut options, or head down the sweet track with the An & Mascarpone. Their branding is also on point, as every single bun is embossed with 'Ebisupan' in hiragana. To turn your hot dog bun into a more substantial meal, they also have daily soups and salads, and there's an eat-in space where you can devour your hotdog-less hot dog bun in peace.
