Aichi prefecture’s produce supermarket Daiwa brings its famous fruit sandwiches to Nakameguro. This takeaway sandwich shop attracts queues on the weekends for the unique lineup of sandwiches made with seasonal fruits like kiwi, pear, strawberry, shine muscat grapes and even high-grade Miyazaki mango.
The classic strawberry sandwich features copious amounts of whipped cream made from Hokkaido milk and fresh strawberries sandwiched between two slices of shokupan (Japanese milk bread). During strawberry season, the sandwich comes in three variants – and at three different price points – each with a different type of strawberry.
In addition to sandwiches, the shop has also started offering made-to-order crêpes where you can try out sweet and savoury fillings like shrimp and avocado or banana and chocolate.
If you're looking for a spot to sit down and relax, stop by nearby sister shop Da Café in Ebisu where you can enjoy fruit sandos and other fruit-centric desserts on a spacious outdoor terrace.
