Two years after opening its hotel to guests, The Tokyo Edition, Toranomon was finally able to launch its signature restaurant, The Jade Room and Garden Terrace, in October 2022. Located on the hotel’s 31st floor, the new venue is headed by famed British chef Tom Aikens, whose London restaurant Muse currently holds one Michelin star.
With sleek wooden dining tables and viridescent velvet upholstery, the restaurant’s interior has a cool and sophisticated ambience but still feels inviting. A space covered in greenery, the restaurant is a seamless extension of the hotel’s plant-filled lobby, where five-star luxury has been given a playful splash of the urban jungle.
Chef Aikens describes his menu as a fusion of Japanese and Western flavours, with dishes like slow-cooked pork belly with pickled pineapple and a moreish chocolate dessert made with yuzu honeycomb and miso. The signature four-course lunch is priced at ¥10,000, while the dinner service offers a choice between four courses for ¥16,000 or six courses for ¥20,000.
As for the Garden Terrace, the views alone are worth booking a table at this al fresco dining area, where you can sip on sparkling wine with the iconic Tokyo Tower in your eyeline. The vertical garden and abundance of potted plants – roughly 200 of them, in fact – make for a convincing natural retreat even when you smack in the middle of the city.
There’s a separate menu for the Garden Terrace with more casual dishes including bite-sized ox cheek croquettes, mini lobster rolls and Japanese fried chicken wings to snack on throughout the day. Note that the Garden Terrace is only open from spring through autumn and will be closed during in winter.
