Playing on the Japanese pronunciation of the numbers 1 (ichi) and 5 (go), January 15 is known as 'Strawberry (ichigo) Day'. A great excuse to hawk all kinds of strawberry-related edibles, the day has also inspired Ginza's Shiseido Parlor to source superb berries from all over the country for a special parfait menu. Throughout January, the ice cream delights will be topped with Gifu's Minomusume, Yotsuboshi from Yamaguchi and Sanukihime berries from Kagawa, while those visiting on Strawberry Day itself (or the day after) can look forward to a parfait incorporating a whopping 15 varieties of strawberries.
