This long-standing izakaya in Jinnan can be a little hard to find, but on the other side of its nondescript entrance is a vibrant open-kitchen serving mouthwatering plates of broiled mackerel, rich beef tendon stew and fresh sashimi. Shirubee’s Shibuya location has fewer seats than its other joint in Shimokitazawa, so it’s best to book ahead of time if you want to squeeze in on a Friday night.
