Located on the second floor of Nescafé Harajuku, this special café is dedicated to two seemingly opposed pursuits: drinking coffee and napping. Usually, we find coffee and sleep don’t mix, but Nescafé claims a ‘coffee nap’ here can actually improve the quality of your sleep. The café allows you to have a nap in an individual booth kitted out with your choice of a reclining chair or sofa, and of course, a personal Nescafé coffee machine.
To try the coffee nap, go for a 30-minute session (¥825), which includes drinking a cup of coffee before your nap. The idea behind it is that the caffeine should kick in right around the time your nap ends, helping you wake up more easily.
A longer session of an hour (¥1,650) or more will get you a cup each of caffeinated and decaffeinated coffee. Drink the decaf before your nap, and wake yourself up with the standard coffee to get your day going. Each booth is equipped with a Philips Smartsleep lamp that helps you wind down and wake up with relaxing lights and sounds.
It’s not all sipping and snoozing, though – the café also offers meals like grilled steak salad (¥1,410) and spicy shrimp rice (¥1,080). Reservations are highly recommended as there are only limited spots available daily.
