Step outside Shiinamachi Station’s north exit and you’re bound to stumble upon this renowned stand-up, open-air noodle restaurant. Nanten Honten attracts visitors from afar with its signature meat soba and udon noodles, either of which can be had for just ¥500.
The shop’s generous helpings of slow-cooked and well-seasoned pork and green onions pair nicely with either udon or soba, which are sold piping hot or refreshingly cold depending on the season. If you’re feeling especially hungry, you can double the amount of meat for a measly ¥100. There’s even a breakfast deal available: between 5.30am and 10am, you can choose to have your bowl topped with an egg for free – either a raw one or an onsen tamago (soft-boiled egg).
