This Bakurocho 'Japanese bistro' mixes Japanese and Western styles. Think a saikyoyaki (grilled fish which is first pickled in white bean paste) with highland vegetables from Karuizawa, sourced directly from a contract farmer there, or very, very fresh oysters which you can eat straight away – every dish showcases the true flavours of the base ingredients, without too many added elements. At dinnertime, try some of the otsumami (snacks), a steal at ¥300 a piece. The lights made from drift wood and private rooms with low tables add to the rustic, natural atmosphere.
