Takeout and delivery are booming in Tokyo right now. More and more restaurants are offering food you can easily enjoy at home – plus, it's a great way to support the city's restaurant scene. Best of all, some of Tokyo's 226 Michelin-starred restaurants – the most of any city in the world – are also getting in on the action, so you don't have to miss out on top notch meals even when you're self-isolating at home.

A table at these stellar restaurants are also hard to come by; in normal times, you'd have to make a reservation weeks, if not months, in advance. So if you've ever wanted to try some of Tokyo's most illustrious fine dining venues but couldn't get a table, now's your chance.

Michelin-starred takeout

Hommage

Two-Michelin-starred French restaurant Hommage has collaborated with Japanese udon restaurant Sasuga Rin to offer a beautiful Udon Suki Box which can be enjoyed at home. The udon noodles are made of buckwheat flour, and are served with a special dashi broth along with dumplings, chicken and an assortment of colourful edible flowers – for ¥15,000.

Akebonobashi Marutomi

Japanese restaurant Akebonobashi Marutomi holds one Michelin star and has started offering beautiful bento boxes for takeout. Lunch bento options start at just ¥1,500, including sets featuring A5 beef. Dinner sets for two people will set you back ¥5,000; they include an assortment of seafood dishes such as shrimp, seasonal grilled fish, roasted vegetables and a tamagoyaki omlette.

Lature

Shibuya's one-Michelin-starred French restaurant Lature is offering special Smile Boxes for takeaway and delivery. Currently, the restaurant is offering an Anytime Smile Box; it's priced at a whooping ¥10,000 but can easily satisfy 2-3 people. It's filled with creative dishes such as stewed beef cheeks, red snapper escabet, pickles from the Laure farm and much more.

Ristorante Honda
Ristorante Honda

This classic Italian restaurant helmed by chef Tetsuya Honda boasts one Michelin star and has recently started offering Italian takeout. Order a set meal for two people here for ¥10,800. Or if you feel like cooking, opt for some fresh pasta and sauces from the online store. You can get Honda's signature sauces including bolognese, crab and tomato sauce, and duck ragout.

Sincere

This one-Michelin-starred French restaurant in Harajuku is cooking up some fusion dishes for takeaway, including a seafood bouillabaisse ramen. Sincere often sell out fast, so it's best to reserve in advance. Lunch and dinner sets are available, as well as desserts including the singature Amazon cacao terrine.

Tagetsu

One-Michelin-starred Japanese restaurant Tagetsu is offering kaiseki-style bento as well as food kits that allow you to recreate its popular menu items at home. The restaurant uses seasonal ingredients, so the menu varies, but you can expect classic items the likes of chirashi sushi, bamboo shoots and wild vegetables. Check the latest menu on its Facebook page here.

Requinquer

One-Michelin-starred French restaurant Requinquer has made a selection of its signature dishes (including wine pairings) available for over-the-counter takeout and delivery. Try a four-course meal of foie gras, hor d'oeuvres, a main and a dessert, or opt for something simpler such as the fish soup curry.

Pizzeria e Braceria L'insieme

Want a Michelin-worthy pizza at home? Pizzeria e Braceria L'insieme is on the Michelin Bib Gourmand list and offers its acclaimed pizza for delivery via Uber Eats (restricted to delivery area). The classic Neapolitan pizzas are baked in a wood-fired kiln from Naples, Italy and served with classic toppings such as salami, mushrooms and lots of mozzarella cheese. Big eaters will do well with the Americana pizza, topped with a heaping pile of French fries.

L'Ottocento

This Michelin Bib Gourmand Italian restaurant serves up freshly made pasta for lunch and dinner. The takeout and delivery menu is updated on the Facebook page daily. Expect dishes like octopus ragout, roast beef, and spicy tomato arrabiata pasta. The restaurant also offers wine from its own winery for takeaway.

Dharmasagara

South Indian restaurant Dharmasagara is on the Michelin Bib Gourmand list and offers an extensive menu through Uber Eats. The good news is there are plenty of vegetarian and gluten-free options. Try the crispy dosa, flavour-packed samosa or one of the punchy curries.
