One of Shimokitazawa’s most popular food trucks since 2019, doughnut specialist Little Bear Meister found a permanent home in the charming Shinjuku neighbourhood of Kagurazaka. There’s something really charming about this beary adorable café, not least because of the 1.8m-tall bear that greets you from behind the counter. The life-sized furry doll, the cafe’s appointed ‘manager’, was handmade by the owner Hidego Yoshimaka.
As its name suggests, Little Bear Meister is popular for its cutesy teddy bear-shaped doughnuts. Highlights include the signature Nut Bear made with whole wheat flour and almonds, thus giving the doughnut a pleasant, chewy texture and fragrance.
There’s a small seating area, and if you’re eating in, get the Little Bear Plate. This beautiful dessert features a bear doughnut sleeping on a marshmallow pillow, accompanied by fresh cream.
Aside from bear-shaped treats, Little Bear Meister also offers four classic doughnuts in exciting flavours like matcha and kinako (roasted soybean flour).
