Normally found in the suburbs of Tokyo, Komeda Coffee is a chain kissaten specialising in coffee shop classics – toast, sandwiches and a steaming hot cup of joe. Komeda Is in Ginza is the company’s first plant-based café, serving vegan desserts and drinks. It's also one of the rare coffee shops in the city that opens early and closes late; in this case, from 7am to 11pm daily.
Komeda Is offers a variety of meal and snack options which change throughout the day. Stop by at lunchtime for the Beppin soy patty hamburger (¥1,280), or indulge in an afternoon dessert – the brand's famed shiro-noir (¥880) is made dairy-free and topped with an almond milk soft serve.
Komeda Is is also the first Komeda location to offer alcoholic beverages, including vegan beer, wine and fruit liquor. In the evening, a plant-based array of café and izakaya dishes like fried tofu and salads are all on the menu.
The aesthetic of Komeda Is reflects its sustainability goals. The relaxing, welcoming space is decked out with wood furnishings, hanging plants and a brand new green sign, replacing the old-fashioned orange one. The venue still has the cosy atmosphere of its suburban cousins, but Komeda Is is a decidedly upscale café, blending right in with the stylish restaurants of Ginza.
