Shibuya’s popular wagashi café Kantan na Yume opens its second outlet inside the Grownd Nihonbashi complex. Traditional Japanese desserts like wagashi are typically enjoyed in the afternoon over a cup of green tea, but this shop is open during the evening instead, serving wagashi with sake pairings.
Though the selection of sweets changes seasonally, you’ll always find the shop’s signature wagashi Kiki, made with sweet bean paste, two types of cream cheese and a hint of lemon flavour. The subtle sweet and sour taste is addictive and has customers coming back for more. A set of three seasonal wagashi with your choice of alcoholic or non-alcoholic drink goes for ¥2,000.
Most of these pastel coloured treats are available for takeout, but we recommend eating in so you can take in the calm, minimalist interior while sipping on a glass of perfectly paired sake. On the weekend, the shop opens in the afternoon, so you can have a more elegant Sunday session.
