Update (July 2018): Unfortunately, Capoon has closed down
Want to take in a traditional bathhouse painting of Mt Fuji over a cup of coffee? Well, the idea probably never even occurred to you, but that's exactly what you can do at this cutesy Kichijoji café stand. Opened by a fellow hoping to make old-school Japanese culture more accessible, Capoon boasts an entire wall's worth of Fuji art. This majestic mural is the work of Mizuki Tanaka, one of the only three certified 'bathhouse painters' alive today, and looks over patrons enjoying their lattes, matcha lattes and Capoon originals – these include the 'reverse Fuji' tea, an energy-packed mix of lemon juice and butterfly pea tea inspired by an upside-down view of the sacred peak.
