Right in front of Shinbashi Station you'll find this no-frills restaurant devoted to that ultimate comfort food: grilled pork over rice, or butadon. Here, it comes in either small (小, ¥500), regular (中, ¥650), large (大, ¥810), and extra large (特大, ¥1020), the latter of which weighs a whopping 1000g. Miso soup, pickles, kimchi and a soft-boiled egg can be added on for a fee. Order through the ticket machine at the entrance, grab a counter seat, and wait for 10 minutes or so as they grill the slabs of pork belly doused in garlicky-sweet sauce in front of your eyes and serve it up with a twist of pak choi for a semblance of healthiness. Their extra large serving is so large that the slices of pork are virtually draped over the sides of the bowl. Be warned before ordering one, however: Butadaigaku has five commandments, which include not leaving anything behind and eating quickly. To be safe, stick to a regular size, which is filling enough for an average lunch.
