Yakitori restaurants are mostly small, cosy spaces where you sit around a central kitchen, getting up close with the chef as he prepares your skewered chicken meal. This intimate setting doesn’t usually allow for group dining. Enter Buffet Monchant, a new restaurant in Sangenjaya by the same people behind the famed yakitori restaurant Tokoshima. It’s a casual, family-style restaurant with spacious table seating serving quality and reasonably priced yakitori.
For lunch, the restaurant serves a buffet spread, where you can help yourself to salads, drinks and rice bowls such as oyako-don (chicken and egg), soboro-don (minced chicken) and chicken curry. For dinner however, the salad buffet bar will still be there, but you order primarily a la carte, including the yakitori sticks, from a photo menu on a tablet.
As with Tokoshima, Buffet Monchant uses quality chicken from France. The yakitori items are ¥250 each, but you can also opt for either the all-you-can-eat or all-you-can-drink packages.
