To find this Afuri outpost at Roppongi Crossing Gate, just look for the two glowing signs above the Go-Go Curry shop. First-timers should go traditional with the yuzu shio or yuzu shoyu ramen with the tanrei (simple) broth. Or you can upgrade to the maro broth with added chicken fat. Either way, the bowls come teeming with chashu pork (which can be swapped for chicken at no extra cost), seaweed, menma bamboo, mizuna greens, half a soft-boiled egg and shredded yuzu citrus.
Switch things up by ordering either bowl as tsukemen – a reverse ramen where you dip the noodles into the soup. Afuri’s broth, made with chicken stock and dashi, is light and surprisingly refreshing. For something with an extra kick, try the spicy yuzu ratan ramen, or skip the meat and go for the veggie-filled vegan ramen.
