Rich dandan noodles and plump glazed donuts aren’t normally the sort of comfort food fit for vegan diets, but at this new cafe in Loft Shibuya, even the most indulgent dishes are made from plant-based ingredients. The idea was to open an eatery with healthy, vegan-friendly dishes without relying on a menu of boring salads.
Though from their appearances, the offerings at 2foods resemble a cheat-day meal. Substitutes like plant milk in place of dairy milk, brown rice instead of white rice, and gluten-free noodles mean guilt-free eating for vegans and the health-conscious.
Savoury lunchtime options include nutrition-packed bowls of curry and noodles, as well as bizarre hybrid snacks where soy meat is sandwiched in a vegan donut. The vegan egg salad donut (¥518) might only be for adventurous eaters, but even non-vegans will have a hard time resisting sweet treats like the matcha bean paste donut (¥518) or the chocolate peanut butter donut (¥464).
