Though he's signed to the famously austere electronica label Raster-Noton, Kangding Ray has conjured some unashamedly lovely moments in the past, no less so than on 2008 breakthrough album Automne Fold. His latest full-length disc, April's Hyper Opal Mantis for Stroboscopic Artefacts, was a far more conceptual and innovative effort that nonetheless provided plenty of excitement for techno nerds. Now back at Contact, he'll be sharing the booth with Berghain regular Samuel Kerridge, who incorporates noise and drone elements into his deep, dark and trippy techno.
