Onigiri rice balls are a staple of Japanese cuisine, and many Tokyo restaurants are now taking them to the next level with creative and unique fillings. One of the city’s most popular rice ball eateries is Onigiri Bongo in Otsuka.

Infamous for its incredibly long queues and celebrated for its soft, fluffy rice balls, Bongo offers over 50 filling options. Think everything from classic ume plum and salmon flakes to more unlikely combinations like bacon and cheese or curry and beef.

If you’re not in the mood to queue for ages for the chance to grab some of these in-demand onigiri, we’ve got some good news. Onigiri Bongo recently partnered up with convenience store FamilyMart to offer two special onigiri flavours: ground meat with egg yolk and takana greens with spicy mentaiko cod roe mayonnaise.
Want to try them out for yourself? The special Bongo konbini onigiri are now available at FamilyMart stores nationwide and cost just ¥198 each. For more information, visit FamilyMart’s website.
