The highly-anticipated Sony PlayStation 5 marked its launch in Japan on November 11 with a special evening ceremony at the 1,200-year-old Kanda Shrine. The choice of location might sound weird, but Kanda Shrine is right next to Tokyo’s legendary anime and tech mecca Akihabara and knows its local audience. The shrine will even bless your electronics and devices for you.
To celebrate the release of the next-gen video game console, there was a special projection mapping event at the shrine from 6pm to midnight, bathing the whole venue in an eye-catching blue coloured display. The light show featured the PS5 logo and the familiar circle, X, square, and triangle controller buttons. The main shrine gate was also illuminated with colourful lights – a rare sight, since the shrine usually closes at 5pm.
