Covid-19 has interrupted many tours of entertainers and musicians the world over, but performances can still take place through online shows, which are now more accessible than ever.
Taiko troupe Kodo, who are normally based on Sado Island off the coast of Niigata prefecture, were initially set to perform live shows across the US and Canada until theatres were forced to temporarily close due to Covid-19. While they may not be travelling with their show as planned, the Meany Center for the Performing Arts at the University of Washington has uploaded a one-hour performance of the drummers for everyone to watch for free.
With taiko drums that are larger than the performers themselves, the Kodo troupe will have you feeling energised with the strength and spirit they use to deliver each beat. The performing arts centre only requires you to input your name and email address to view the video, but those who are able to donate are encouraged to make any contribution they can. The video will be available until 11.59pm on January 29 (PST), or until 5pm on January 30 for those tuning in from Japan.
