What’s scarier than Covid-19 coronavirus? Living in a foreign country during a global pandemic and not understanding the language. Luckily, Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike is releasing weekly updates in English on YouTube – tune in every Thursday at 7.15pm. This is in addition to her video updates in Japanese and Japanese sign language on Mondays and Thursdays at 6.45pm.
Here is the latest video on June 11.
The broadcast, ‘Stop Covid-19 Novel Coronavirus Latest Information’, is a straightforward video where Koike talks about the latest updates on the pandemic and its impact on Tokyo. In a recent video, Koike says the announcements are so that Tokyo residents can be ‘properly concerned about the virus through accurate information’ and are intended to ‘alleviate our fears and anxiety and allow us to return to normal everyday life as soon as possible.’
With news and facts straight from the source, Koike dispenses the latest updates, including the number of coronavirus cases, statistics on the virus and the current rules for Tokyo businesses. There is also a screen displaying written facts for the hard of hearing. The video announcements are a supplement to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's Stop Covid-19 website.
