One of Tokyo’s most popular souvenir snacks, Tokyo Banana has branched out into a range of banana-flavoured treats recently. Aside from the classic sponge cake with a creamy banana-flavoured filling, you can now get Tokyo Banana castella cake, KitKats, cheesecake and even a vegan almond caramel cookie. The beautifully packaged sweets can usually be found at major train stations and airports, but the company’s latest creation is so exclusive you’ll only be able to get it at a highway service stop in Kanagawa prefecture.
Meet the new Tokyo Banana soft-serve, the brand’s first ever soft-serve ice cream, launching on July 22. It will be available exclusively at Expasa Ebina, a service centre located along the Tomei Expressway in Kanagawa prefecture, heading towards Nagoya. The dessert is made from a mixture of rich milk and banana puree, so it’s supposed to taste just like the brand's wildly popular custard cake filling. Plus, it’s served in a crispy waffle cone. While you can’t go wrong with the standard banana flavour (¥450), the chocolate banana option (¥490) has definitely caught our attention. We certainly hope that this soft-serve will be available in central Tokyo soon.
