It’s hard to believe that the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games were supposed to start this week. After being postponed back in March due to Covid-19 coronavirus, the Games will now commence next year, on July 23 2021. The future is unpredictable; coronavirus has thrown the international event into a frenzy, so it’s possible the Olympics will look very different in 2021. After all, Tokyo 2020 organisers and the International Olympic Committee are looking at ways to reduce the scale of the Games.
However, the Olympics are much more than just an international sporting event. Tokyo 2020 will celebrate athletes throughout the world for their hard work and perseverance with #1YearToGo, a private event held at the Tokyo Olympic Stadium. The event will be streamed online to get people around the world excited for the opportunities next year may bring. Details are currently minimal, but more will be announced on the Tokyo 2020 Facebook or official website.
Catch #1YearToGo on Thursday July 23 at 8pm JST online.
