As Covid-19 coronavirus halts many summer plans in Japan including the famous fireworks festivals, event organisers in the country are coming up with creative ways to lift our spirits. Aside from a couple of surprise fireworks being launched across Japan, one drive-in cinema in Chiba is ending its socially distanced movie night with a bang.
Drive in Theater with Hanabi is set to take place on Saturday August 29 at Longwood Station in Nagara, Chiba prefecture, which is about 90 minutes’ drive from central Tokyo. The organisers have yet to announce which film is screening but we do know that you can watch from your car. The evening will end with a colourful fireworks display as the credits roll on screen. Best of all, the fireworks will be choreographed to music for added excitement.
Drive-in theatres have become a popular activity as of late due to social distancing measures. Drive in Theater with Hanabi is put together by several companies to support the local pyrotechnic industry. They also aim to create a venue where people can enjoy movies and fireworks safely and comfortably.
The capacity is limited to about 100 cars and tickets will go on sale at the end of July. For more updates on ticketing details, check the event website here.
