With less than three weeks till Christmas, it can be a stressful time for holiday shopping when all of Tokyo seems to be doing the exact same thing. If you’re in a hurry, you can visit one of Tokyo’s many one-stop shops or head to Shibuya Mark City and get your gifts directly from a vending machine. That’s right – these machines have done the hard work for you.
From Friday December 10, the three pretty pink vending machines will be open 24 hours a day, stocking great gifts that you can get at the press of a button.
One vending machine will carry one of the hottest desserts in Tokyo this year: the canned cake from Risotteria Gaku, the folks behind Shibuya parfait parlour Parfaiteria Bel. The canned cakes are made with pink whipped Hokkaido cream, fresh strawberries and sponge cake and retail for ¥1,100 each. Judging by the popularity of these cakes, you’ll want to get there early to make sure you snag one of the tasty desserts before they sell out.
Fresh flowers from Hibiya Kadan will also be available in another vending machine. Don’t worry, they’re wrapped in special balloon packaging which helps protect the flower from getting squished. Choose a single rose or a carnation for ¥1,000 each.
The fanciest of the vending machine gifts has got to be these dainty watches from Angel Heart. These fancy timepieces come in special display boxes that are pre-wrapped , so you don’t even have to buy wrapping paper. The watches start at ¥10,000 each.
You’ll find the vending machines on the first floor of Shibuya Mark City and they’re available from December 10 until Christmas Day. Happy shopping!
