There are many reasons to love Japan’s amazing konbini or convenience stores. From selling delicious ready-to-eat meals around the clock to offering a plethora of services like ticketing, your local konbini is a real one-stop wonder.
And as if these stores weren't already convenient enough, 7-Eleven is taking things up a notch by testing out new hi-tech smart microwaves that can heat up your food to just the right temperature simply by scanning a QR code on the food package.
This makes things a lot easier for 7-Eleven employees, as all they have to do is open the microwave, scan the QR code with the camera inside and close the door. In minutes (or seconds), your food will be prepared to perfection, heated up to its ideal eating temperature.
These microwaves are still being tested out, so they aren’t installed at all 7-Eleven locations in Japan just yet. But if everything goes to plan, the smart system could help customers heat up the food themselves accurately and without worry. How great would that be?
