Looking for more domestic travel deals beyond the Go to Travel campaign? JR East has you covered with the extremely good value unlimited Weekend Pass. For ¥8,800 (¥2,600 for children), you get unlimited rides on JR East lines on a consecutive Saturday and Sunday.

The JR East trains covered include local lines and even shinkansen. However, there's a surcharge for the latter. Do note that the Tokaido shinkansen, which connects Tokyo to Kyoto and Shin-Osaka, is unfortunately excluded from the promotion. Nevertheless, there's still lots to discover as you can use this pass to travel to Nagano, Niigata, Shizuoka and more.

A map of the JR East lines in the Kanto, Yamanashi, Nagano, Niigata, Yamagata, Fukushima and Miyagi regions that are included in this promotion can be found on the official websiteIn addition to the JR East lines, here’s the list of other lines covered by the weekend pass:

Fukushima: all Fukushima transportation lines, all Abukuma Express lines, Aizu Tetsudo line (between Nishi-Wakamatsu to Aizu-Tajima stations)

Ibaraki: all Hitachinaka Kaihin Tetsudo Minato lines, all Kashimarinkai Tetsudo lines

Nagano: all Kamiochi lines, all Nagano Electric Railway lines, all Shinano Railway lines, all Ueda Dentetsu lines

Niigata: all Hokuetsu Express lines, Echigo Tokimeki Railway (between Myokogen and Naoetsu stations)

Shizuoka: all local Izukyuko lines (including rapid trains)

Miyagi: all Abukuma Express lines

Yamagata: all Yamagata Tetsudo lines

Yamanashi: all Fujikyuko lines

You can buy the pass a month prior until the day before departure at JR ticket offices, travel service centres (View Plaza), JR East Travel Service Centers or ticket machines at designated stations. The promotion is valid for any weekend until the weekend of March 27 2022 (except April 27 to May 6, August 10 to 19 and December 28 to January 6), meaning the last day to purchase the pass will be Friday March 25. Passholders will also be eligible for discounts on selected car rentals at the stations covered by the promotion.
