Move over Godzilla, there’s a new projection mapping show in town. Earlier this week, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building in Shinjuku updated its Tokyo Night & Light showcase with a new segment titled ‘Synergy’. The digital work is designed by Belgian CG artist Maxime Ghislain, who has also worked on projects such as the 'Evangelion Kabukicho Impact' show launched at Tokyu Kabukicho Tower last spring.

This piece, which is already on show every night since its launch on June 24, focuses on the relationship between humans and nature, imagining a future where a perfect harmony between the two has been achieved. The display spans the building facade’s projection area of 13,905sqm – the biggest in the world – and creates a mesmerising spectacle against the Shinjuku skyline.

In addition to the new programme, organisers have invited food trucks and drink stands to the site on weekends and holidays, so that visitors can enjoy drinks and snacks as they watch the show.

The Tokyo Night & Light projection mapping show at Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building in Shinjuku is one of the best free things to do in the city. ‘Synergy’ is on show at 7.30pm on weekends and every half hour between 7.30pm and 9.30pm on weeknights. Check out the full programme here
