Summer in Japan is marked by sweltering temperatures, ice cream and the lively street festivals (although many of these have been cancelled due to coronavirus). Of course, we have to stay hydrated, and the summer drink of choice in Japan is Ramune, a lemonade-like soda commonly sold in glass bottles sealed with a marble. The drink is so popular it even comes in candy form – a fizzy tablet offered by candy company Morinaga.
Now, Ramune is getting even more of a summer twist. McDonald’s Japan, known for its limited-edition desserts like Kit Kat and Gudetama McFlurries, is releasing the Morinaga Ramune McShake. Starting on May 20, just in time for the humid season, children and adults craving summer nostalgia can try this new creation, which is a milkshake version of the candy that’s based on the soda – simple, right? The shake has the same teal colour as both the Ramune bottle and candy, and the small size (¥120) is even served in a retro-style cup.
The small Morinaga Ramune McShake is sold in limited quantities, so get your candy-loving paws on it quick. A medium goes for ¥200, and both are available for delivery.
