After being postponed due to the pandemic, Expo 2020 Dubai is about to end its six-month run today on March 31. The massive global showcase, which is scheduled every five years, is a platform to connect international organisations, governments and citizens from around the world. Organised by the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), a general assembly in Paris, the World Expo also celebrates its official participants by hosting the BIE Day Awards Ceremony to honour those who have made major contributions to the expo’s success.
This year, Japan was awarded gold under the category of Exhibition Design for self-built pavilions larger than 2,500sqm. Pakistan was awarded silver followed by Spain claiming bronze. The awards were decided by an international jury of nine experts from various fields who visited all the international pavilions at the Expo between January and March this year.

Osaka is set to host the next World Expo in 2025. This is the third time the Kansai city is hosting the Expo, following previous events in 1970 and 1990. For more information, check the Expo 2025 Osaka website.
