It's the end of typhoon season (fingers crossed) and we can finally start to enjoy autumn. The lush green leaves of summer are starting to change into vivid shades of yellow, orange and red, putting us all in a cosy autumn mood. Hiking up Mt Takao and taking a stroll along Icho Namiki-dori at Meiji Jingu Gaien are popular ways to admire autumn foliage but according to this year’s forecast, Tokyo’s foliage won’t reach its peak until at least mid-November.
The trees up north in prefectures like Hokkaido, Miyagi and Fukushima, on the other hand, have already turned for the colder weather. Thanks to social media, we can still enjoy the autumnal beauty that Japan has to offer without having to travel to these destinations ourselves. Here we’ve compiled some of the most beautiful images this season that will get you excited for the upcoming autumn foliage in Tokyo. And if you’re planning to head up north for the changing colours, now’s the time to go.
