On the evening of June 1, the ‘Cheer Up! Hanabi’ project put on its hotly anticipated nationwide fireworks display, with big booms and bright colours in every single prefecture in Japan. The project, which kept the date, time and locations of its fireworks secret until the last minute to discourage crowds, was designed to lift people’s spirits during the ongoing Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic.
If you missed the show, here’s a glimpse of the breathtaking fireworks launched simultaneously in all 47 prefectures.
