If you could go anywhere in Japan, where would you travel to? If you’re eager to beat the summer heat, you can go glamping in the mountains or take an art walk in the forests of Nara. Your dreams can become an affordable reality with the Go to Travel domestic tourism campaign, which offers discounts up to 50 percent.

When the campaign started in July, trips were only discounted by 35 percent, which is still a significant deal. Starting October 1, Go to Travel will make up the additional 15 percent of discounts in the form of travel vouchers, which you can use at restaurants, souvenir shops and attractions in your holiday destination. Each coupon is worth ¥1,000. You'll receive your coupons either through the hotel, travel agency or digitally, according to Japan Today

The Japan Times also reported that the Go to Eat campaign is expected to start in mid-September or earlier. For this, the campaign will provide gift certificates offering up to 25 percent discount at registered restaurants.

Unfortunately, Tokyo is still excluded from the Go to Travel programme, but a decision on re-adding Tokyo is expected to be made this month. At least there are plenty of good travel deals to go around, including a free stay at this hotel in Shinjuku. If you’re eligible for the Go to Travel campaign, aka not living in Tokyo, you can book your hotel stays completely in English on Booking.com
