In association with Trunk Hotel
Whether you're in need of a holiday after the holidays or just looking for a convenient location to host an event, Shibuya's Trunk Hotel offers a range of options that can cater to your needs.
Located just off Shibuya's trendy Cat Street, this spot is not your average hotel. Here are a few little inside tips you may want to take into consideration before booking your next stay in Tokyo.
1. The rooms range from cosy to colossal
Your home away from home, Trunk Hotel has a variety of rooms available to suit each and every one of your needs. Choose from guest rooms including their spacious ‘terrace suite’, equipped with a full kitchen, dining and living space and a water basin out on the terrace, to their ‘dining suite’, perfect for events and dinners as it includes a large kitchen, wine cellar, small bar and more.
Also an ideal spot for families, Trunk Hotel has a ‘balcony junior suite’ which fits up to six guests and is decked out with bunk beds, a spacious living area and a large terrace with sprawling views, while their simple ‘standard rooms’ also offer guests a stylish and supremely central stay in the city.
2. It’s got the most local minibar ever
Trunk Hotel’s unique minibar offerings include a range of local snacks and drinks, found in all rooms so that each and every guest can get a taste of them. Trunk Hotel collaborates with many local brands around Shibuya, so you'll find items like ‘Shibuya Cola’ and Tokyo-made craft beer in the minibar, alongside single-drip coffee bags, handmade cookies and traditional Japanese candy for when you get the munchies.
Craving more? Many of the items are also available for purchase at the Trunk Hotel store on the main floor and make for perfect souvenirs to take home.
3. Hidden art and design are everywhere
From the interestingly designed guest rooms to various pieces of art placed all over the hotel, Trunk Hotel showcases some unique design points. The paintings and other artworks on display range from pieces by Japanese artists including Jun Hagan, Michinori Maru, Nanao Kobayashi and Ido Yoshimoto to quirky touches like ‘do not disturb’ signs illustrated by artist Ryu Okubo.
The interiors feature touches like floral and branch arrangements by The Little Shop of Flowers and ceramics by Akihiro Nikaido. Also noteworthy is the overall design of the hotel, which conveniently accommodates everything from vacation stays to showcases or other business events.
4. Even the slippers are made of 'upcycled' materials
From the organic cotton towels to the shampoo and body wash found in each room, Trunk Hotel takes care in making sure its amenities are made only from organic, domestic ingredients with an Ecocert certification.
Recycled materials are thoughtfully used throughout the hotel, from furniture to amenities. Things like leftover iron remnants are reused and made into hangers you’ll find in the rooms, recycled rubber waste is upcycled into beach sandals as an alternative to disposable slippers, and glasses are made from recycled fluorescent lightbulbs which once lit up Japanese elementary school classrooms.
5. Community comes first
Community is at the heart of Trunk Hotel, which makes for an ideal venue for large parties, get-togethers, events and other gatherings involving both the local community and guests from across the globe. Guests and non-guests alike can also enjoy the various events that happen at the lobby lounge as well as dining at the hotel's two restaurants.
Some of the spacious guest rooms can also accommodate large groups and encourage events and entertaining in the rooms and large open terraces. If you like some of the items found in the hotel rooms, you can purchase them at the check-in counter near the elevators as well as at the Trunk Store, which offers functional, earth-friendly items and locally produced treats.
